A project by Office for Foreign Affairs

Supporting the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

Liechtenstein is committed to protecting and promoting human rights worldwide. This commitment is a priority for Liechtenstein's foreign policy and particularly important in the context of Liechtenstein's activities at the United Nations. The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, OHCHR, is an important global player in this regard.

The UN High Commissioner supports the Human Rights Council and coordinates the various UN human rights bodies. In recent years, numerous armed conflicts and repressive measures against the civilian population have led to a significant increase in human rights violations in many countries. This has also increased the scope and importance of the OHCHR's work.

Accordingly, there is a great need for funding to ensure accountability for the most serious human rights violations, which is one of the High Commissioner's overarching strategic priorities. Liechtenstein is therefore making a generous contribution to strengthen this area of the OHCHR's work.
