Securing food and income in Yemen
A cruel war has been raging in Yemen since 2015. Even though a ceasefire was agreed upon in April 2022, the armed conflicts between government troops and Houthi rebels along the front line continue.
Tens of thousands of people have been injured or killed, millions displaced. Many of them are unable to return to their homes. More than half of the inhabitants need humanitarian aid, almost a third of them are children. Droughts and floods are also destroying livelihoods, leaving many people without access to drinking water and electricity.
Despite difficult conditions, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is providing humanitarian aid in Yemen and focusses on helping the population to increase their own food production and income. In addition, local institutions are supported in building their capacities.
The ICRC also provides medical care, supports healthcare facilities, facilitates family reunifications and prisoner visits, and advocates for compliance with international humanitarian laws. Liechtenstein is making an important contribution to this valuable but underfunded ICRC commitment in order to secure the urgently needed aid for Yemen.
