A project by Office for Foreign Affairs
Respect for human rights in legislative proposals
Security through cooperation and dialogue between states is the declared aim of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, OSCE. Its most important institution is the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, ODIHR, which supports the participating states in implementing their human rights obligations. Liechtenstein has been a supporter of the ODIHR Fund for the Review of Legislation for many years. The Fund enables the 57 participating states to have their legislative proposals independently reviewed for compliance with OSCE requirements and international law. The Fund's legal assessments make an important contribution to strengthening human rights and fundamental freedoms in the OCSE area. Even when the recommendations of the reports are not implemented, they often lead to national debates and thus raise awareness in state institutions and society.
