Protection of children in armed conflicts
Violent conflicts involving non-state armed groups are taking place in many countries. Particularly children suffer from the effects of these armed conflicts. Geneva Call is an independent non-governmental organisation based in Switzerland that encourages violent conflict parties to comply with international humanitarian law and international human rights standards.
Geneva Call raises awareness among these armed groups through dialogue on the protection of children and the prevention of sexual violence. The NGO provides information on international regulations, organises training sessions and workshops and offers support in peace negotiations.
In 2022, Geneva Call made constructive contributions in Burkina Faso, Syria and Thailand to the adoption of unilateral declarations of commitment to the protection of children by the armed groups involved, with a focus on bringing an end to the use of child soldiers. The NGO is also developing training tools to combat sexual violence and gender-specific discrimination.
