People in Syria are still in need of emergency aid

A civil war has been raging in Syria for thirteen years. The impact of the earthquakes in February 2023 has aggravated the already severe humanitarian crisis for more than 16 million people. Almost half of these are children. Millions of people are internally displaced. The population is also suffering from frequent droughts and floods.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been active in Syria since 1967 and works closely with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. In this way, the ICRC is able to support millions of people by providing access to clean drinking water, sanitary and medical facilities and electricity.

The ICRC also works to achieve family reunification, prisoner visits and compliance with international humanitarian law. The global funding difficulties for ICRC projects are also impacting Syria. Aid had to be reduced and as a result reaches fewer people. With its support, Liechtenstein can make an urgently needed contribution to ensure that the ICRC can continue to carry out all its activities in Syria as planned.

Project goals

Securing humanitarian aid for the population in the form of access to clean drinking water, sanitary and medical facilities and electricity.

Compliance with international humanitarian law, facilitating family reunification and prisoner visits.
