More protection for women in elections in Latin America

Women in Latin America are exposed to a variety of threats. In addition to social conflicts, organised crime, migration and displacement, climate change and a lack of protection under the rule of law, sexual violence is one of the main problems. The "Inter-American Coalition for Women", CIM, within the "Organisation of American States", OAS, is committed to protecting women from gender-based violence.

CIM was founded in 1928 and is one of the central forums for the promotion of gender equality in Latin and South America. A particular focus of its work is developing effective instruments to combat gender-based violence, especially in the context of political elections. The project strengthens the "Women, Peace and Security" agenda and promotes the participation of women in peace processes and crisis management. With Liechtenstein's support, the capacity of OAS member states to promote the influence of women in political and security policy decisions can be improved.
