Managing the influx of refugees in the Republic of Moldova
The Republic of Moldova is an important destination for many people seeking protection from Russian aggression in Ukraine. Several hundred thousand people from Ukraine have already fled to the neighbouring country, which puts an enormous burden on the poorest country in Europe. The Republic of Moldova is receiving support with these challenges from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR.
The UNCHR is also involved in the EU initiative "Moldova Support Platform", which provides for the care, registration and accommodation of people. In addition, the UNHCR also processes information on migration movements and supports host countries and refugees on site. Liechtenstein's contribution to these activities emphasises its close relations with the Republic of Moldova. The two countries have been cooperating bilaterally on developmental, technical and humanitarian issues since 2007.
