A project by Office for Foreign Affairs
Making children and women in Yemen more resilient
A cruel civil war has been raging in Yemen for nine years. As a result, the already precarious humanitarian situation in the country has deteriorated further. Almost 20 million people are suffering, almost a quarter of whom are children under the age of five. More than a quarter of the population now lives in camps for displaced people. Droughts and floods are making the situation even more difficult.
Medair is one of the few locally recognised international organisations providing humanitarian aid. The aim of the NGO is to reduce the excessive mortality and morbidity rates in the country. As part of its project, Medair cares for women before and after giving birth, treats malnourished children and women and supplies health facilities with medication.
Medair is particularly committed to providing psychosocial care for children. To this end, child-friendly spaces, sports and play areas are set up and sports and leisure activities are offered to the children. With this contribution, Liechtenstein is focussing on the physical and mental health as well as the nutrition of the most vulnerable population groups.
Project goals
