Liechtenstein promotes good governance in the Council of Europe
Good governance stands for good, transparent and responsible government leadership. Liechtenstein promotes the global development of good governance and makes it a key concern in its project participations in the Council of Europe within the framework of "International Humanitarian Cooperation and Development" (IHCD).
From November 2023 to May 2024, Liechtenstein was able to strengthen its commitment to good governance under its chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and will continue to actively pursue this. The focus is on various action plans for 2023 and 2024: with country-specific measures, the Council of Europe is committed to strengthening human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Georgia, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ukraine in accordance with European standards.
Liechtenstein also supports the internet platform "Safety for Journalism". It was set up by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to document violations of freedom of expression. The platform now works with fourteen partner organisations and forms a kind of early warning system to better protect media professionals. It makes it possible to recognise challenges and problem areas in individual countries. In dialogue with the countries concerned, "Safety for Journalism" can thus contribute to possible reform processes. Liechtenstein has been a member of the "Group of Friends for the Protection of Journalists in Strasbourg" since 2020 and will continue to prioritise this issue.
