Fast and direct help: The UN Central Emergency Relief Fund

The Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has been providing rapid humanitarian aid for almost twenty years. Founded in 2006, the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund makes it possible to respond to emergency situations in a very uncomplicated and flexible manner. It finances life-saving programmes when no funds are available from other sources.

This applies first and foremost to crises and emergencies that receive little attention from the global public. In April 2023, for example, around forty million US dollars were made available following the outbreak of violent conflict in Sudan. In the same year, severely underfunded emergency aid programmes in Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Syria, Yemen and other countries also received support from CERF. Liechtenstein is one of the UN member states that has continuously supported the Central Emergency Relief Fund since its foundation.
