A project by Office for Foreign Affairs
Enabling holistic rehabilitation of torture victims
People who have been victims of torture need a wide range of help. The OHCHR Fund for Victims of Torture of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights provides valuable support by awarding financial contributions to human rights organisations and rehabilitation centres. The OHCHR Fund's project partners prioritise holistic support for victims in order to enable them to reintegrate into society.
Every year, tens of thousands of torture victims and their families all over the world receive medical, psychological and social care. In 2023 alone, the fund supported 190 projects, thereby helping more than 53'000 survivors of torture and their families in 90 countries. Since 2019, Liechtenstein has been part of the "Group of Friends". The group’s aim is to strengthen the right to compensation for victims of torture worldwide and to promote the OHCHR Fund.
