Emergency aid for northern Syria after devastating earthquakes

The devastating earthquakes in southern Türkiye and northern Syria on February 6th, 2023, hit people in the Syrian provinces particularly hard. The humanitarian crisis in this region was already extremely severe due to the ongoing civil war, the IS regime and the hostilities between Kurdish militias and the Turkish army. As a result of the earthquake disaster, sub-zero temperatures, power cuts as well as fuel and water shortages also drastically worsened the supply situation of the affected population.

Liechtenstein therefore donated to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and supported the Red Crescent in its emergency relief activities, e.g. distributing food, building emergency shelters and providing medical care. The Red Crescent also helped searching for missing persons and campaigned for the protection of unaccompanied children separated from their families.
