Drinking water for the people of Madagascar
From 2020 to 2022, the African island country Madagascar was hit by the worst drought in over 40 years. Since then, further climate-related natural disasters have exacerbated the situation, leaving more than two million people dependent on aid. The international aid organisation Medair has set up two solar-powered water points in the south of the country to supply the population with clean drinking water.
In addition, latrines and showers were built in schools and hospitals. The aim of the NGO's project is to reduce the extremely high mortality and disease rates in Madagascar. Medair is also training the local population to improve hygiene and maintain the infrastructure independently. Thanks to the project, more than 5'000 people can be supplied with drinking water. An additional 5'000 people will have access to adequate sanitation facilities.
