Diverse emergency aid for the population in Afghanistan

Since the Taliban took power in August 2021, the humanitarian and human rights situation in Afghanistan has worsened significantly. State authorities are often unable to fulfil their basic tasks sufficiently. In addition, clashes between various tribes continue, exacerbating the plight of an already vulnerable population.

More than half of the population is currently dependent on humanitarian aid. In addition, the political situation in neighbouring Pakistan has changed: Hundreds of thousands of refugees were expelled in 2023 and had to return to Afghanistan, putting additional pressure on the country's limited resources.

The International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, is committed to alleviating the suffering of the Afghan population through its various activities. The various measures include protection from violence, access to essential goods and services and improved water and sanitation. Liechtenstein also supports the ICRC in its underfunded mission, particularly in strengthening and promoting international humanitarian law.

Project goals

Humanitarian emergency aid for the Afghan population in the form of protection for people affected by violence, strengthening the right of access to basic goods and services, support for health facilities, physical rehabilitation services and improving the water supply and sanitation.

Promoting acceptance of and support for international humanitarian law.
