A project by Office for Foreign Affairs

Direct aid for 1’000 internally displaced persons in eastern Ukraine

The number of people who had to leave their homes in Ukraine as a result of the Russian war of aggression is high. In addition to various projects that help internally displaced persons within the country, Liechtenstein also supports Caritas Switzerland in its cooperation with the Ukrainian sister organisation Caritas Spes.

In this project, Caritas is focusing on the Odeska district, which had to cope with an influx of refugees from the embattled Mykolaiv region in 2023 and received less international support due to the insecure situation.

As part of the project, 1’000 internally displaced persons received cash assistance to cover their basic needs for three winter months. After digital registration the money was transferred to the bank accounts of those affected. Those who did not have a bank account were helped to open one. The selection of beneficiaries, disbursement and monitoring were carried out on the recommendation of the Cash Working Group (CWG) and according to established standards.

Project goals

Direct aid in the form of cash payments for 1‘000 internally displaced persons from eastern Ukraine.

Strengthening the capacity of Caritas Spes to provide cash assistance in accordance with internationally recognised professional standards.
