A project by Office for Foreign Affairs

Combating torture of children and adolescents

It is an appalling fact that children are detained and tortured under inhumane conditions in many countries. They are rarely heard in court and can only make very limited use of legal resources. The World Organisation Against Torture "Organisation Mondiale Contre la Torture", OMCT, is implementing a unique project to combat and prevent torture of children.

OMCT aims to remedy abuse in prisons where children and young people are held. With its project, OMCT is committed to improving the rights of children in detention as well as providing legal and psychological support. In addition to its involvement in individual countries, the OMCT is actively involved in international cooperative efforts against torture as part of the project, for example in the UN Anti-Torture Committee and the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. OMTC coordinates the world's largest coalition of actors against torture with around 300 human rights organisations and carries out global monitoring.
