A project by Office for Foreign Affairs
Combating human trafficking and supporting victims
Human trafficking is a global phenomenon associated with serious human rights violations such as psychological and physical violence, lack of freedom and economic exploitation. Liechtenstein has been combating human trafficking at an international level for many years, particularly as part of the Liechtenstein Initiative for Finance Against Slavery and Trafficking (FAST).
Liechtenstein also supports the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children (UNVTF). It was established in 2010 to combat human trafficking. The fund is a central instrument of the international community that finances projects run by NGO partners on the ground to help victims of human trafficking. The diverse projects include rescue and rehabilitation measures, legal counselling and legal assistance, psychosocial support, economic support in the form of vocational training and educational opportunities.
To date, UNVTF has supported over 162 NGO projects in more than 60 countries, helping over 80‘000 victims. With its contribution, Liechtenstein is helping to secure the UNVTF's commitment to grassroots organisations, and above all to the victims.
