Building capacities in the fight against corruption
In many countries, anyone who wants to defend human rights and fight corruption is exposed to considerable risks. This is why the non-profit organisation Transparency International (TI) has launched the Safeguarding Anti-Corruption Fighters' Effort programme - SAFE.
The purpose of SAFE is to support human rights defenders in building capacity to handle these risks effectively. The programme is aimed at over 100 civil society organisations and around 2‘000 individuals worldwide. In addition to capacity building, SAFE offers customised materials such as risk assessment guides, templates for security plans and office security checklists.
In a second priority area, TI supports network organisations that are exposed to immediate threats. This includes advice on security, organising relocation or evacuation, obtaining visas, mobilising allies and strategic communication.
Liechtenstein, which is helping to close SAFE's funding gap with its contribution, plays a major role in the work of TI: The TI movement, founded in 1993, now consists of 113 independent national organisations and organises the International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC), the world's largest forum for exchange between countries, society and the private sector in the fight against corruption.
