Aid for hundreds of thousands of refugees in Sudan

Since the outbreak of violent conflict in Sudan in April 2023, almost eight million people have been displaced. More than six million people have sought refuge in the country itself, while almost two million have fled to neighbouring countries. In total, around 25 million people are dependent on humanitarian aid.

Due to current conflicts, e.g. in Ukraine and the Middle East, Sudan, which has been hit by this double crisis, hardly receives any public attention. As a result, only a few contributions are being generated by the international community for aid programmes. This also applies to the project of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).

The independent non-profit organisation has been active in Sudan since 2020 and is considered one of the most important organisations supporting refugees in the region. The assistance offered by the NRC includes protection from violence, building shelters and camps, access to clean drinking water and sanitary facilities as well as food security. The NRC enables displaced people to earn their own income. It also provides access to education for children, information and legal advice. Liechtenstein supports the NRC’s activities in Sudan, which provided aid for around 500‘000 refugees last year.
