A project by Liechtenstein Development Service (LED)

Vocational training in irrigation technology

The project supports the vocational training course "Technical Irrigation Systems" at the San Martí Technical Institute in Tomina, Chuquisaca. The project enables young men and women from predominantly rural areas to make agriculture in their communities more sustainable and to protect water resources and thus the livelihoods of many farming families as part of their future careers as irrigation technicians . Training them will have an important impact beyond the project as their skills are fundamental in making the region of Chuquisaca which is severely affected by water shortages more resilient to climate change.

In addition to the students, farmers in rural Chuquisaca also benefit from the project, as they receive state recognized training in technical irrigation in their communities and can improve the use of water on their plots by setting up their own irrigation systems.

Project goals

Farmers work with modern technical irrigation systems, thus protecting water resources and improving productivity and income.

The technical institute has improved its institutional management and offers high-quality vocational education.

Young people and small farmers strengthen their integral skills for their own businesses or entry into the labor market and sales markets.
