A project by Office for Foreign Affairs
Strengthening the reintegration of migrants in Kosovo
High unemployment, low wages and general dissatisfaction with the services provided by the authorities and the healthcare system are fuelling the exodus of people from Kosovo to Europe. In cooperation with several ministries in the country, Caritas Switzerland has developed a project that aims to make it easier for people to return home and to improve the reintegration of returnees.
There are also plans to better integrate the diaspora, i.e. the Kosovar community living abroad. The Caritas Switzerland project includes innovative approaches to better utilise the expertise and financial resources of the diaspora in Kosovo. With its contribution, Liechtenstein is supporting the project, which also aims to utilise remittances from the diaspora as investments in jobs and growth in the local economy.
Project goals
Improving the capacity and coordination of municipalities and non-governmental organisations to systematically address the challenges of migration and integration management; institutional support and capacity building.
Local capacities are strengthened to improve individual support for migrants during (re)integration.
The expertise and financial strength of the diaspora will be utilised to boost the economic development of the communities. A pilot project is being launched in which investments are increased through financial participation by the municipalities and the state as well as Caritas Switzerland. This will create companies and jobs.
