Sisters of Code – more gender equality in Cambodia

Cambodia is facing a lack of workforce with general digital skills. Prejudices and traditional norms are the main reasons whay many young women do not consider or dare to pursue technology related careers. IT and tech in general are therefore still heavily male dominated labour markets.

The project bridges the existing gender gap in the tech industry and provides young women with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the 21st century’s digital economy.

Project goals

Improved digital literacy and coding skills among girls in Cambodia, enabling them to actively participate in the digital economy and pursue careers in the technology sector, thus having better income and employment opportunities.

Up to 450 young women complete the training programme of the Sister of Code programming clubs.

Work readiness program to support employment opportunities for young women across Cambodia with up to 270 trainees joining the program.

There is a growing awareness of the gender imbalance in technical professions in Cambodia. This goes hand in hand with the realisation that women need to be better supported. Inspiring role models are central to this.
