Protection of human rights for all people
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, OHCHR, is the leading UN human rights organisation. It has a mandate from the UN General Assembly to promote and protect human rights for all people around the world. The OHCHR is committed to preventing human rights violations and facilitating international co-operation in this field.
Its tasks include coordinating all relevant activities of the United Nations and incorporating the human rights perspective into all activities. In addition, the OHCHR's tasks include reforming the existing mechanisms for the protection of human rights.
Due to the great importance of the OHCHR regarding the promotion and protection of human rights, Liechtenstein regularly makes general contributions. In 2022 and 2023, Liechtenstein was the leader among all contributing member states in terms of per capita donations, with contributions totalling 400‘000 Swiss francs in both years. With its support, Liechtenstein is doing its part to cover the OHCHR's high funding requirements and maintain its valuable activities.
