Modern agricultural training for greater climate resilience
In Tanzania, almost a quarter of the population is malnourished. Many people often have no access to clean drinking water or electricity. In rural areas, most of them live as peasants. Their farming is made even more difficult by climatic changes: heavy rainfall and periods of drought require adapted and more sustainable methods and irrigation techniques to enable year-round cultivation.
The Curriculum Implementation Support for Training Institutes (CISTI) project supports the agricultural training of skilled workers to strengthen both the livelihoods of peasants as well as climate resilience. CISTI was initiated by the NGO Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT) in cooperation with the Department for Training and Research (DTR) of the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).
Phase II of the project focuses on developing and validating teaching and learning materials. These compendia, textbooks and practical guides are to be used in agricultural training institutes and by local farmers. CISTI aims to deploy sufficient teaching staff to impart knowledge, skills, competences and abilities. In this way, the new curricula can be effectively implemented in the institutes, the SAT Training Centre and the DTR.
Project goals
Teaching and learning materials (compendia, manuals, practical guides) have been developed and validated for use in all ATIs.
Human resources capacities to improve knowledge, skills, attitudes, competences and abilities in the ATIs are strengthened.
The institutional capacities for effective implementation of the new curricula in the ATIs, SAT FTC, DTR are improved.
The workshops of the vocational training centres receive better equipment.
Special features of the project
A central approach of the project is the integration of the topics of gender equality in agriculture, organic farming and environmental protection in the training at the ATIs and in the curriculum.
