Aid flights to the flooded areas of Kenya

Heavy rainfall and flash floods in Kenya claimed many lives by the end of April 2024. Over 150'000 people have been displaced and almost 200‘000 people were affected by the disaster. Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF Switzerland) is an NGO that has been bringing humanitarian aid to hard-to-reach areas with small aircraft for more than 75 years.

MAF Switzerland transports aid organisations between Nairobi and the affected communities, offers reconnaissance flights for the aid teams and shares the resulting information with other aid organisations in order to clarify local needs. Relief aid, supplies and required personnel are transported to the flooded areas by airplane. MAF Switzerland uses the return flights to fly out displaced persons and patients who require urgent medical care. With Liechtenstein's contribution, a total of 45 flight hours/eleven flights can be carried out. MAF also supports the logistics of the aid organisations and provides personnel and relief supplies at the airport.
